There are so many wonderful species of fish to enjoy while you are fishing at a fishing lodge in Alaska. One of the most understood species, but little known to many is the Char. For starters, the char can be both on a seagoing ship or sea fish sweet, but in Alaska they are found in lakes near the polar regions of the state. The best fishing time is from late May to early July, so make your Alaska Fishing Lodge plans accordingly.
The early summer is a good time to fish for Arctic char, as the fish is feeding well on salmon found in the waters. A light to medium action spinning rod or fly fishing provide plenty of excitement for most anglers. Like its cousin, the Dolly Varden, dry flies, streamers, spoons and spoons are effective.
Later that year, from August to October, the char will spawn. Often the fish can be located near the entrance streams or rivers that connect to a lake before spawning. Size of this fish can vary from lake to lake, with the Arctic Char from 2 to 10 pounds usual size.
Arctic char is often confused with its close relative, Dolly Varden, it is good to be able to distinguish the difference Acrtic between Char and Dolly Varden, both of these fish are common in Alaskan waters. The Arctic char has some characteristics that away from his cousin and are relatively easy to spot. The tail of the Arctic Chars has a better fork for it and the base of the tail is narrower. In addition, they usually have a short head and nose, which is important in males. Dolly Varden also tend to be silver in color than the char knight.
Arctic char is a fish colored, with colors ranging from gold, brown, orange, red or yellow. The upper body is darker illuminating olive as it wraps around the abdomen of the fish. Also note the whitish orange-yellow or brown.
When Vacation Planning Alaska Fishing Lodge, you can add the char to your list of possibilities. It is a species that you have not taken the opportunity elsewhere.
