The many faces of the 12-Bar Blues

Piano players and other musicians who want to learn the foundations of purely American music should start with the blues. This form of music began a century ago. Today jazz, hip-hop, rock and roll and rhythm and blues owes a debt to her.

While the word "blues" evokes a sense of humor to be blue. The music has those qualities, but in its way, it can also be very rewarding. Many blues songs are cries of hope for better days to come.

The blues form developed from the African American experience. The music we call the blues is a touchstone to their struggles in America and their growth as a people more freedom. Blues songs are rooted in work songs, field chants, singing and talking. They also have their basis in songs spiritual and country ballads.

The Blues appeared on the Deep South, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi Delta. The music sang the struggles of workers and life many poor people were living. Their great toil and sacrifice had articulation in stories, with many of them in the form of song.

A boost to the stature of the Blues came in 1912 when William Christopher Handy transcribed and published the song "Memphis Blues". He was a conductor of African-American dance orchestra. He gave himself the name "Father of the Blues" because of his tireless efforts to write, transcribe and publish blues music to get it to the masses.

The blues grew from the Deep South to the North and entrenched itself in cities like Chicago and Detroit. The music changed as it moved northward. No more about the conditions of all the poor South, the music began to speak of urban environments African-Americans now live in

The blues has changed even more in years 40 and 50 that the radio continues to broadcast his songs across America. New electronic innovations taken the blues a different sound, with electric guitar to the forefront. Musicians carried this new electric sound with elements of blues into rock and R & B genre, which developed.

Those who hear that blues sound in much of the music of today can not understand that music is very basic in its construction. A piano player desiring to learn blues may include the fast with a little study.

The most common blues are heard and played the 12-bar blues. Musicians Blues discovered that they could express their thoughts fully in only 12 bars or measures of music. However, there is room in these 12 bars for many creativity, whether musical or lyrical.

Almost all blues music is in 4 / 4 time. That means there are four beats in each bar. In a bar, each quarter note receives one beat. In addition, a 12-bar blues song is broken down into three sections of four bars each. Musicians in general form agreements blues on the first, notes, fourth and fifth wide music of eight notes. These form the blues chord progression. The first agreement is generally high in the first four bars. Four seconds bars normally highlight the fourth chord of the scale, and the last four bars show the fifth in a rope ladder.

For the lyrics of a blues song, the AAB pattern is predominant. A singer sings the first and the second about four bars with the same sang in each. The third verse of four measures will have different lines. Therefore, A and A refer to the verses with the same vein, the B refers to the verse with different lines.

It can have different segments in a 12 bar blues song. When a 12-bar section is solved with the last four measures addressing the previous eight, a new pattern may develop in the next 12-bar section. In addition, while the 12-bar blues are the most common form in the field of blues, there are exceptions to this rule for variety and experimentation.

In the years 1950 and 1960 there was a movement in Britain, which led the British Blues. "They were followers of the American tradition of blues and very strict follow this form for a t-shirt. It ended in the mid-1960s that musicians of this country began to develop their own concepts and blues styles, although still based on the school American blues pioneer of thought.

The blues lends itself to a lot of piano music available to play today. His influence is evident in the tunes of Broadway shows, film music and many types of music-love ballad. blues can be a welcome addition to any pianist directory.
