There are many types of gold coins that you can buy, collect, and invest in that are available in the U.S. market. Some of the most popular choices for people are one ounce gold coins, which come in many different styles, designs, and denominations. There is a large calling for the collecting, sale, and trade of gold coins, and the value of one ounce gold coins is generally greater than what you will actually pay for a one ounce bar of gold because there is some what is called "numismatic value" to a coin.
Many things determine the numismatic value of a coin including type, mintage numbers, date of issue, mint mark, age and of course, condition. The condition or grade of a collectible one ounce gold coin can greatly increase the value of that coin. Even slight variations in condition can have a huge impact on its value.
There are other one ounce gold coins that you can invest in, as well, including the one ounce buffalo coin collection, which features the standard Indian that appeared on buffalo nickels for many years. It doesn't really matter which type of coin you invest in, because each one will have a different value as determined by the current market.
If you find rare enough one ounce gold coins to invest in, you will probably end up having more value in the coin than what it would be worth as pure gold on the world markets. For example, if the price of gold happens to be $800 per ounce, and your coin has been deemed to be worth about $1,500 because of its rarity, you've made a very sound investment and the collectible value of your coin is very high.
Investing in gold coins is becoming increasingly popular for more people than just traditional collectors and investors. The accessibility of the internet has made investing in coins specifically much simpler than it ever was before. Many of the most collectible one ounce gold coins you will find for sale have been graded and certified by one of the two grading services for gold, the PCGS and the NGC. Their ratings are based on a standard system that was developed in the 1940s to help grade and certify gold in a uniform manner. Buying a certified and slabbed coin by one of these services will help you protect your investment and more clearly determine its value.
Investing in one ounce gold coins can be an enjoyable hobby, as well as a great financial choice for yourself and your family. With the markets of the world changing so dramatically from one day to the next, gold is one commodity that remains strong, making your investment wise for both your financial situation as well as for your enjoyment of collecting the shiny yellow precious metal.
