American Eagle value in American coins is something on the minds of many numismatics (those who collect coins for investment purposes or for a hobby) as there is a lot of historic value attached to these fine pieces of coinage. Just think of all that the American Eagle symbolizes for our country and you can understand the value it tends to lend to American coins. Also, there are many different depictions of eagles in various stances, whether in flight, wings outstretched, in mid-wingbeat, folded at rest while the eagle is perched, and what the eagle may be carrying.
American Eagle images add value to coins from their meaning... take for instance the Peace silver dollar - in the reverse is an American Eagle, sitting peacefully upon a peak of a mountain, viewing the sunrise in the distance. In his talons are none of the arrows, but only the olive branches of peace as he takes in the inner value of quiet contemplation. This peaceful image, and the fact that he only holds the olive branches of peace, has caused this coin to become known as the Morgan Peace silver dollar. A bit fascinating, isn't it?
Another way the American Eagle can add value to a coin in the way it is depicted is in the somewhat unusual way it shows up on the reverse of the more rare type of Morgan silver dollar. On this particular coin, we can see that this image has the eagle's wings a bit less "full", and indeed the bird himself looks somewhat slender in appearance. His wings aren't quite fully outstretched in mid-flight, which seems almost as though he's trying to make sure he fits within the circumference of the coin itself.
