Jim Kelly was one of the best players that the Buffalo Bills ever had. He seemingly could do it all from the quarterback position. He was tough enough to hang in the pocket while being rushed, he had a rocket arm to throw the ball down field, he had the accuracy and touch it takes complete the short passes, and he had the mental toughness and leadership qualities that every team desires in it's quarterbacks. Here are five other interesting facts about the great Jim Kelly.
#1 The first touchdown pass Jim Kelly ever threw in the NFL came in the first quarter of the first game of the 1986 season which was a 28-24 loss to the New York Jets. It went for just two yards and was caught by running back Greg Bell. This was his first game at QB for the Bills, and was the first of three touchdown passes he threw in the game.
#2 The team Jim Kelly threw the most touchdown passes against during his career was the New York Jets. He threw 33 touchdown passes against them, four more than he did against the second place team the New England Patriots.
#3 Jim Kelly threw some big touchdown scores, but he threw more of them in the second quarter than he did at any other point of the game. He threw 237 touchdown passes during his NFL career. In the first quarter he threw 47, he threw 55 in the third quarter, 60 in the fourth quarter, and one in overtime. In the second quarter though, he completed 74 passes for touchdowns during his career.
#4 No player caught more touchdown passes from Jim Kelly during his career than the great Andre Reed. In fact, Reed's 65 touchdown receptions are nearly three times as many as the second place player on the list, Pete Metzelaars, with 22.
#5 The last regular season touchdown pass of Kelly's career was a four yard fourth quarter throw to Quinn Early in a 20-9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in 1996. He would actually thrown one more a couple of weeks later, a seven yarder to Thurman Thomas in a playoff loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
