Everyone knows that gold is one of the best and purest kinds of metals that can be formed into precious items. Nowadays, metals are frequently formed into the shape of bars as they are easy to carry and store. While talking about gold, bars are made for storage purposes; since it is a precious metal therefore, it is not used for shipment. As the name suggests, bar is a bar made up of bullion.
These bars, available in market, are of different weights, types and prices. Different types of gold-bars have different manufacturing methods. The history of gold-bar reveals the fact that they were originated in China. It is not just a tale but it shows the value of gold regarding people in those times.
There are two different methods of manufacturing three types of gold-bars:
1) Large sized gold-ingots with fairly accurate weight
2) Small sized gold-ingots with precise weights
3) Long sized or horizontal gold bars that are normally used to make minted gold bars
Generally, gold is transformed into bars using two methods namely, casting method and the minted method. Cast bullions are the ones that are made from melting gold and pouring it into a mold. Mint ingots are the ones that are made by cutting this substance with another piece of gold.
Casting Method:
The casting method is more commonly used to melt gold and create solid bullion ingots. Casting is subdivided into further two steps, purification and liquefaction of gold. Purification of bullion is a quite complicated and dangerous process. For casting method, gold is placed in a pan and heated. Then a void container of the brick shape is filled with this liquid gold, which forms a bar when cooled. The ingot is cooled in the open air, or by putting the mold in a water tank. After cooling, the bar is placed on a table and is cleaned with a towel.
Minting Method:
The second process is called minting, which is commonly used to make coins. But, it can also be used for making gold bars. Mint method includes gold as a cutting tool to cut other pieces of bullion in the required size. The markings on the gold bar are made by mechanically compressing the gold bar.
The markings are also made by hammering on each bar. Generally, a stencil is used for this purpose. On the other hand, such markings can be made by putting bars into a hydraulic press. If there is a need of writing a serial number on the bars, the number is usually written on the bars by passing them through a stamp machine which assigns a sequential serial number to each gold bullion.
In the modern age, gold bullions are also known as Gold tola bars. In other words, these bullions are measured in tola, which is considered as the measuring unit of gold. The governments all across the world keep gold bars in their possession which reflects their strength and wealth in the economy.
