In our surroundings there are many religious places where there is truth that we should gain. People from all walks of life, walk into different centers hoping to learn the truth. They take up the status as disciple and try to act as one but what actually is disciple? What is his task? These questions we may never ask ourselves. By entering the holy place, we usually hold onto name with pride. Being a disciple in a holy place does not mean that one will truly gain. We then ask, if we do not gain as a disciple, who will instead?
To put it simply, everyone upon initiation can claim to be a disciple but is he really one? Only his actions will tell. A person who merely holds onto the name without practising the teachings is only a disciple in name. A true disciple will uphold the Truth and the teachings of the Master with faith and sincerity. Uphold the teachings not merely in words but with every action which must be in accordance with the teachings.
Humans are still humans and we are fallible. Since we can make mistake and wrong is seen, we must seek remedy to correct ourselves. We may not have attained the stage of holiness but must try our best to uphold and work towards it. If the word "try" does not even appear in the mind, then how can we see improvement? In many holy places, there are rules and precepts to follow, but how many really have followed them fully? So, "try" we must at least attempt and that is what Heaven asks from us.
The duty of disciples may seem heavy but upon attainment, they will prove its worthiness. To follow the rules and precepts is only one of the duties. We must try to learn the essence of the teachings and truly understand the words that are spoken and their meaning within. We must increase our knowledge of all things and try to realize the truth in them. Upon total realization, he will be able to lead others into the truth. To lead, one must have a pure heart that combines the actions of virtues with it. We are told to propagate in the right manner, learn to have a more compassionate heart and work among all as one big family.
To see the light, you have to imagine yourself as a tree in the deep jungle, fighting for survival, trying to climb. Climb not for the height or fame but to reach the sunlight, for without it the chances of survival are difficult. Try to imagine the sight of one tree trying to grow taller than another. Even a tree seeks survival and seeks to reach warmth as well as to see the sun. Why not man? We have to realize this simple teaching even from a tree in the jungle.
We at the moment are like small trees, without seeing sunlight, without getting the warmth and without any sense of fighting for our own survival. If we remain in this state then only darkness we will find and creep in and only coldness will cut into our flesh. See the sunlight again and do not remain in the dark. Be firm and grow and do not just talk and don't do. Try to out-grow the rest and see the sunlight.
Animals run wild and kill one another to survive. When the night creeps in, they will still know how to go back to their homes. The instinct of animals may be wild but they still know how to protect their young. Why? They may not be able to compare with us in term of intelligence, yet they understand the importance of unity. Man should learn from these animals even from the ants. The unity of ants, man may not even be able to compare with. The filial piety of goats or birds, man may not have even reached their standard. If man is given the inborn wisdom and intelligence to seek, isn't it really ashamed that man does not even equal to the other beings of lesser intelligence? Worse still, they fight and fight and kill one another because of religion. Billions of dollars are spent in arms to kill or protect from being killed. How wonderful it can be if these monies are spent for peace and destroy all guns and bombs.
Seek now for the light and find the Truth. We are not here to fight but here to seek enlightenment and return to Heaven. Everyone has a place in Heaven. Give peace a chance and restore the real you. Begin to row back to the golden shore again. All of us are brothers and sisters in the first place. Do not be blinded by the light but be guided.
